Let’s talk about practice, not GAS

A thought came into my mind recently.

A friend of mine, Ming, recently got a CANON 5D Mark IV as his new Gear; he used to just shoot everything with his newest phone like Note 10 or Note 20. One day, he thought he wanted to try a DSLR camera to see if he could get better photo or greater quality.

I mean, it is always glad to see people into photography cause it is fun. However, like most of people, after he got the DSLR, the only thing he is talking about, is the Gear. Yup, he fell into what people called G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome), but I mean, he only had the camera for just one month and used for maybe two or three times, then he is already thinking about buying flash light, new lens, new batteries, and even CANON EOS R5 or R6.

What he told me while he is in the outdoor portrait shooting activity, he just doing continuous shooting for the sake of the time?! what’s the point to buy those new gears if you do not even try to understand or familiar with the camera you owned?

As I mentioned, the only thing he cared about is how great and how sharp the image quality he can get, he is no longer talking about the image itself, how he wants to improve the photo? what he wants to show in the photo? what story he wants to bring to others in the photo? That’s really sad…

Let us stick with what we already had, and play around with it, practice more, get familiar with it more, let it be part of you, set it and forget it, just have fun!
